World of Music, Art and Dance festival at Meldreth and Orchard Manor

Aurora Meldreth Manor School and Orchard Manor has been a hive of activity this month as they held their own World of Music, Art and Dance festival.

Donna from ‘Inclusivity Accessible Dancing Group’ came in to give everyone a dance lesson. The hall transformed into a dance hall for the afternoon, with everyone getting involved. It was quite a work out and lots of fun.

We discovered that Meldreth and Orchard have the X-Factor! The guys have been working with a variety of instruments including drums and guitars throughout the week. A Meldreth and Orchard Manor band could well be on the cards.

Over in Orchard Manor the young people have been getting their hands dirty during their art sessions replicating some Ghanaian art.

As part of the festival the monthly ‘Ready Steady Cook’ cook-off took on a Ghanaian theme with all flats given the same ingredients and challenged to create a Ghanaian themed dish. All the dishes were delicious and this month the school won and was awarded the sought after ‘Golden Wooden Spoon’, which goes to the winning team to then defend at the next challenge.

They rounded off the festival by hearing about the work the Aurora Foundation has been doing in Ghana building a Learning Centre. The staff and young people then had a go at making their own bricks which will then be painted and displayed in the gardens.

What a week! We're looking forward to seeing what's in store next year.
