Maintenance Operative

Salary: Up to £18,000 per annum dependant on experience

Hours: 40 hours per week, (52 weeks per year) part time will also be considered

Aurora St Christopher’s School and Children’s Home is looking for a Maintenance Operative to join their facilities team.

It’s a really exciting time to work for Aurora St Christopher’s as we are currently investing significant amounts into redeveloping our service.

The school supports children and young people aged 5-19 years of age with a range of needs resulting in severe and complex learning difficulties, including autism. Many have associated complex health needs, including severe epilepsy.

The role requires emphasis on Health & Safety relevant to the premises ensuring that the building and grounds are continually fit for purpose for residents and staff to enable them to fulfil their roles.

This job involves various duties to help the Site maintenance manager keep the site property in good order, carrying out general maintenance, and repairs to the building. This will require a high level of attention to detail to promote the character of the buildings.

Key Accountabilities:

  • All required checks are recorded appropriately, and that the company health & safety policies are adhered to.

  • Ensuring work to the building is carried out effectively to a high standard, in line with the character of the building


  • General maintenance knowledge preferably with a qualification in electrics/plumbing

  • Alternatively, a construction trade.

  • Knowledge of current Health & Safety regulations

  • Understanding of hot & cold water systems

  • Knowledge of good working trade practices.

  • Knowledge of required safety checks fire/water/asbestos/general required within a college, school or care environment

  • Experience of managing people
