IT Technician

Salary: £22,000 per annum.

Hours: Fulltime 40 hours per week, 52 weeks of the year

Aurora is an innovative provider of education and care for children, young people and adults with special needs and disabilities. We are currently looking for an IT Technician to work across Aurora Meldreth Manor School and Aurora Orchard Manor in Cambridgeshire.

Meldreth Manor provides education, care and therapeutic support for children and young people who have severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties resulting in complex learning needs. Orchard Manor offers a supportive living and learning environment for young adults with similar difficulties.

The entire site is currently undergoing a multi-million-pound redevelopment that will completely modernise the living and learning environments. The investment in both the environment and people will transform this site into one of the leading education and care services in the UK.

The Role

Important: Due to the nature of the work it is essential for the candidate to have a full UK Driving Licence with access to his/her own vehicle.

This role is essential to the smooth running of a site or cluster of sites by ensuring the ongoing availability of required IT and addressing ad hoc issues efficiently as well as supporting any IT changes. The role will provide onsite IT technical support to the team and children/young people and adults at site(s) including improving skills and knowledge to ensure best practice and to raise confidence and ability in the use of Technology.

Experience and Knowledge

The candidate will have the following knowledge and experience:

  • Understanding of Microsoft Operating Systems (Windows 7,8.1, 10, Server 2008 R2, 2012 R2) and other software applications such as Microsoft Office, Office 365, SharePoint.

  • Knowledge and Understanding of network infrastructure i.e. network switches, patch leads (network cabs), wireless access points.

  • Ability to install IT equipment including, but not limited to; desktops, laptops, A/V equipment, printers, projectors (clean filters, change bulbs etc), tablets products

  • Ability to swap out PC/Laptop components, i.e. memory (RAM) modules, hard drives, PSU etc.

  • Be able to diagnose and resolve faults or issues on above equipment.

  • Excellent communication skills – all mediums

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise

  • Manage priorities and working time effectively

  • Ability to liaise with staff at all levels of technical knowledge

  • Ideally have worked in a school or education IT environment
