Aurora is an innovative provider of education and care for children, young people and adults with special educational needs and disabilities. We are currently looking for a Deputy Headteacher to join our school team in Meldreth and be a key player in our developing service.
Meldreth Manor School provides education, care and therapeutic support for children and young people age 6-19 years with severe and profound communication difficulties associated with conditions like cerebral palsy, autism, brain injury and degenerative disorders. They may have complex health and sensory needs and associated difficulties that require specialist support to enable them to access a bespoke curriculum. It is one of the few schools in the country that offers this level of highly specialist support.
The school shares the site with its children’s home and a young adult transitional centre, Orchard Manor. It is currently undergoing a multi-million-pound redevelopment that will provide contemporary living and learning environments for young people with complex needs. The investment in both the infrastructure and our people will transform Meldreth into one of the leading education and care services in the UK.
Due to the continuing growth of the school, we are looking for a talented and passionate person to join our united and skilled team and be part of the service’s exciting future. As Deputy Headteacher you will make a valuable contribution to shaping the ‘outstanding’ school that we want to be.
We are looking for an ambitious, resilient and strategic Deputy Headteacher to support our Headteacher as the school grows and adapts to meet the needs of a wider range of students
As this is a new role for the school, you will be able to shape it and make it your own, building on your already excellent knowledge, skills and experience
Key roles & Responsibilities:
0.4 (2 days per week) teaching responsibility within a PMLD /SLD or ASD classroom
Lead the day to day management of the school in the Headteacher’s absence
Be the designated safeguarding lead for the school
Act as School SENDCo including chairing annual review meetings
Be the designated teacher for PEP students
Be responsible for mentoring NQTs and UQTs
Arrange referral visits and undertake pre- admission assessments
Oversee daily staffing, including liaison with care managers
Collate and analyse data
Qualified Teacher Status with degree qualification (QTS teacher reference number required)
Willingness to undertake further leadership qualifications
Successful and inspiring middle or senior leadership within a school setting
Skilled in the use of augmentative and alternative communication approaches
Good understanding of curriculum development
Knowledge of how to make best use of data to monitor student progress and set ambitious targets
Excellent special needs classroom practitioner who can lead by example
Able to support and mentor others but also hold them to account
Confident in making difficult decisions
Proven team player with a high level of patience who always puts the needs of the students first
In depth understanding of what constitutes good and outstanding teaching within a highly specialist learning environment
Competent in working collaboratively with partners in local authorities to ensure the best possible outcomes for students
